I’ve lived in this small coastal town my whole life. Recently, there’s been a huge debate tearing our community apart: a company wants to build a wind farm on the outskirts of town. The town council is thrilled, but there’s a massive catch: the area chosen is home to several families, including two of my closest friends. I know the planet needs us to change, and I want a more sustainable future for my kids, but how can I look my friends in the eye and say their loss is worth it? At our last community meeting, emotions were so raw—some neighbors even stopped speaking. Everyone's looking at each other, waiting to pick sides. My own family is split, and every dinner conversation spirals into an argument. I’ve been asked to speak at an upcoming meeting, since people trust my opinion, but I feel paralyzed.
