I work for a landscaping company that maintains some of the largest commercial properties in my city. Last month, I started noticing an odd chemical smell during my early-morning shifts—stronger and sharper than what’s on our approved materials list. Curious (and uneasy), I double-checked our supply room and found containers for a banned pesticide hidden behind maintenance equipment. When I asked my supervisor about it, he brushed me off, but the next day, the containers were gone. Since then, I’ve been seeing more dead bees and songbirds on the properties we treat. I’ve always believed in caring for the environment, but this job pays me enough to support my kids and my aging mother.
