I’ve lived in this town my whole life. When I heard a major green energy company wanted to build a wind farm here, I was excited: we desperately need clean power and jobs. But when the proposal was announced, I realized the land they chose cuts right through the neighborhood next to mine—where my kids’ best friends and two of my coworkers live. Their homes will be demolished if the project goes through. Now, the whole community is split. Some are furious at the idea of displacing families who’ve been here for generations. Others argue we can no longer say no to clean energy—not with the wildfires last summer and blackouts getting worse. I joined the first town hall, thinking I’d support the wind farm, but seeing my neighbors break down in tears as they asked where they’d go, I lost my words. Now petitions are circulating. My friends want me to join them in opposing the project, using my platform as PTA president. But I keep thinking of my kids’ future, breathing cleaner air, and what kind of world we’re leaving behind. If I support the project, I hurt people I care about now. If I oppose it, I’m helping maintain the status quo. There’s talk of compromise, but it might only save a few homes. I feel paralyzed—torn between progress and loyalty. What would YOU do?
