I’m writing this because I genuinely don’t know what to do and I feel sick with worry. One of my closest friends is getting married in a few weeks. She’s madly in love, planning everything down to the smallest detail, and constantly telling me how she finally feels safe and understood. Here’s the problem: I recently learned—completely by accident—that she’s marrying under a total misunderstanding. Her fiancé lied about never being married before, when in fact he had a previous marriage that ended badly and even left him with debt. My friend bases a lot of their future plans (even their finances) on the 'fact' that they’re starting from scratch as a couple. I found a public record document while helping my cousin search for old court files, and it was unmistakably him. I haven’t said anything yet because she is incredibly sensitive about broken trust and has already said she’s tired of people ‘interfering’ in her happiness. I feel this could shatter her. But if I stay silent and the truth comes out later, she will feel humiliated and betrayed—not just by him but maybe by me. I worry I’m overstepping, but I also feel responsible for the pain she’s about to walk into. I love my friend deeply and want the best for her, but I'm terrified I'll lose her entirely if she thinks I’m sabotaging her relationship. What would YOU do?
