Do I Tell My Sister-in-Law Her Husband Stole From Me?

Category: family • Theme: Family Loyalty vs Justice for Myself

I never imagined I’d be in this position with my own family. Last month, my brother lost his job and things have been tense. I went over to their house for dinner, and accidentally left my purse in the guest room. The next morning, I saw a bank notification—over $500 gone. At first, I thought it must be a glitch. When I checked our home security footage (my keys were in my purse, so I checked if anyone entered), I saw my brother with my purse later that night. I felt physically sick. I haven’t said a word to anyone, not even my husband. My brother is acting normal, and my sister-in-law keeps texting me about plans for summer vacation, completely unaware. Part of me is furious and hurt—I never thought someone in my family could betray me like this. But I also feel guilty for even considering tearing apart their marriage over money, especially when my brother is struggling. I keep imagining if I switched roles—would I want to know the truth? More than anything, I don’t want to create a rift I can never fix. The silence is eating me alive, and I don’t know if I can keep pretending. What would YOU do?
