I just learned that my 15-year-old son isn’t biologically mine. My wife finally broke down and admitted she had an affair just before we got married, and because of circumstances back then, she was never sure. She recently got anxious about some health issues on his side of the family and did a DNA kit. The results came last week—he’s not my biological son. I’m devastated, not just because of the betrayal, but also because I truly love my son. I’ve been his dad every single day—first steps, scraped knees, late-night talks. He’s my boy in every way that matters, and I can’t imagine life without him. But now I’m carrying this secret, and it’s eating me up inside. My wife wants to keep it between us, fearing it would destroy our family. My son is going through some of his own struggles lately, and I don’t want to make things worse. Still, I worry he’ll eventually find out some other way, and then he’ll hate me for lying to him, or it’ll shatter his trust. Part of me thinks about letting it all stay buried; after all, sometimes ignorance really is bliss. But another part of me can’t stand lying to someone I love this much—or forcing him to live a life that isn’t honest. I honestly don’t know how to protect him and our relationship. What would YOU do?
