I never expected a routine coffee run with my brother to spiral into something like this. We stopped at a convenience store on our way back to his place. I waited in the car, scrolling on my phone, when suddenly my brother ran out, looking pale and scared. Seconds later, the store owner stormed out, shouting and demanding someone call the police. Apparently, cash and some lottery tickets were missing from the counter. I knew my brother was struggling with money, but he’s always been scrupulously honest with me—he swore to me, shaking, that he had nothing to do with the theft. But the police are now asking for witnesses, and I can’t forget how nervous he looked or how he stuffed something into his jacket before getting into the car. No one but me saw him leave at that exact moment. Now, I’m trapped. If I testify honestly and mention what I saw—his panicked exit and hidden pocket—there’s a good chance he’ll be charged, possibly even go to jail. If I keep quiet, nobody else can link him directly to the scene, but I’ll always know I might be letting a guilty man walk free… or betraying someone who’s truly innocent. I love my brother deeply, and the thought of destroying his life terrifies me. But I also know theft hurts real people, and my conscience won’t stop nagging me. What would YOU do?
