Do I Confront My Dad Over His Viral Misinformation?

Category: politics • Theme: Family Loyalty vs Social Responsibility

I never thought I’d find myself here—staring at my dad’s latest Facebook post, heart pounding. For months, I’ve watched him share memes and links about “miracle cures” and conspiracy theories, some of which have thousands of shares. The last straw was this morning, when I saw his post claiming a recent tragedy was staged, tagging our extended family and friends. I know these posts are hurting people. My little cousin reposted one to her school group. Neighbors comment with angry emojis. I even got a DM from someone I barely know, asking if my dad was okay. But my relationship with him is already strained. We barely talk since I moved out. Challenging him, especially in front of other relatives, could end all contact. I worry he’ll think I’m attacking him, or worse—that he’ll just dig in deeper. But ignoring it makes me feel complicit. I keep wondering whether other families are seeing this, worried if someone could get hurt because of his influence. I even considered reporting him anonymously, though the thought leaves me nauseous. Now, every family gathering feels awkward and tense; some relatives avoid sitting near him, and I can’t help but feel responsible. I don’t know if I can just let this go, but I’m scared of losing him for good. What would YOU do?
