I honestly never thought I’d be in this position. I’ve looked up to this politician for years—voted for them, campaigned, even convinced my family and friends to support their causes. Last week, through my volunteer work, I came across internal emails and receipts that seem to prove my favorite politician accepted bribes from a major corporation lobbying against an issue I care about. At first, I thought there had to be an explanation, but the evidence is hard to ignore. My heart sank when I realized the depth of the betrayal. I’m torn: if I report what I know, it could destroy everything we’ve worked for, hand the next election to people whose values I don’t believe in, and make me a target—even to those I call friends.
