I’m torn about something my older brother has been doing lately. He’s always been outspoken, but over the last few months, he’s started posting more and more on social media about politics—conspiracy theories, false statistics, and inflammatory memes. A few of his posts have gone viral. Some are just ridiculous, but others spread outright lies about marginalized groups and promote real-world hate. I’ve messaged him privately to ask him to calm down, but he laughs it off and insists he’s just 'telling it like it is.' Last week, a friend texted me a screenshot of one of his posts. She said her teen cousin was being bullied at school because of rumors started by posts like his. Now I can’t shake the feeling that this isn’t just embarrassing—there are real consequences. At the same time, my brother has always been there for me. Our family’s close, and I know confronting him publicly—or even threatening to report him—could cause a rift that may never fully heal. Part of me feels I owe it to others to stop the harm, but I also feel like I’d be betraying my own blood. I don’t want to lose him, but I don’t know if I can stay silent anymore. Every option feels like it comes with a huge cost. What would YOU do?
