I have been a passionate supporter of my local senator for years—she’s the only politician I’ve ever truly believed in. I campaigned for her, donated small amounts, and even got friends and family involved. Last month, I accidentally received an internal document meant for someone else (I volunteer for the party). The document clearly shows she approved diverting campaign funds to cover a private expense. At first, I thought it had to be a misunderstanding, but I double-checked with election rules and it’s… not. This is corruption, plain and simple. I feel sick—this person gave me hope, and her policies really did help a lot of people. She’s done more for single mothers and renters like me than anyone else ever tried. If this comes out, everything she worked for might collapse, and so might the causes I care about. But I also can’t ignore what I saw. Every time she talks about integrity now, I feel like I’m part of a lie. I haven’t told anyone, but every day I plan to.
