I never thought I'd be in this position. My uncle, who helped raise me after my dad left, has always been one of my heroes. Lately, though, he’s become obsessed with a fringe political movement online. Every day, he shares posts that are clearly full of misinformation—false statistics, conspiracy theories, and even calls to harass people he disagrees with. Some of it is honestly dangerous. At first, I tried to gently correct him in private, but he told me I was 'brainwashed by the mainstream.' Now I see our mutual friends and younger cousins liking and commenting on his posts. I’m terrified it will influence them or, worse, lead someone to do something reckless. I feel sick every time I see another post, but confronting him publicly could shame him and blow up our whole family. If I ignore it, I worry I’m complicit, especially when some of what he shares targets vulnerable groups. I don’t want to lose him, but I can’t keep pretending nothing’s wrong.
