Category: relationships • Theme: Self-Respect vs Fear of Losing Friends
I recently found out that my close friend group has been planning events and get-togethers purposely without inviting me. What hurts the most is that they still send friendly messages in our group chat as if nothing is wrong, asking about my family and even sharing memes, but when I scroll through social media or accidentally overhear conversations, it's obvious they've had brunches, birthday dinners, and weekend trips together—none of which I was told about. At first, I thought maybe they just forgot, but then someone mentioned a private group chat where the 'real' invites happen. I feel betrayed, confused, and honestly embarrassed. I keep replaying every interaction in my head, wondering if I did something wrong to push them away. These friends have been a huge part of my life for years. We supported each other through breakups, job losses, and family drama. The thought that I might lose them completely scares me. At the same time, I feel so foolish pretending everything is normal in our chats and liking their posts. A part of me wants to confront them and demand answers, but I'm terrified of the rejection. What if they just flat out tell me they don't want me around anymore? Or worse, what if they keep gaslighting me, insisting nothing's wrong when it's so obvious it is? Alternatively, should I just fade away quietly, focus on myself, and try to build new friendships? Or do I try one small conversation with the friend I'm closest to and ask—just to find out the truth, even if it hurts? What would YOU do?
