I Found Out My Friends Are Meeting Without Me—Do I Confront Them?

Category: relationships • Theme: Honest Confrontation vs Self-Respect vs Protecting Relationships

I always thought I was an integral part of my friend group—we’ve been close for years, celebrating birthdays, venting about work, and sharing practically everything. But over the last couple of months, I noticed more inside jokes, vague Instagram stories, and group photos I just… wasn’t in. I brushed it off at first—maybe I was busy, maybe I missed an invite. Yesterday, I stumbled on a private group chat on my own phone (long story, but it synced by accident), and realized they’d made separate plans multiple times. I even saw a meme about me being 'too much sometimes.' My heart sank. It feels like a mix of betrayal and embarrassment. Part of me wants to call them out immediately and ask why I’m being excluded after all these years, but I’m terrified they’ll just be defensive or make excuses. Another voice says just walk away and focus on new connections—if they don’t value me, why should I beg for scraps of affection? But then I also wonder: maybe it’s something I can fix, or at least understand, if I approach it calmly. I keep rehearsing what to say, rewriting texts in my head, but never hitting send. I hate how insecure and desperate this makes me feel, but I also feel lost without my friends. I honestly don’t know how to move forward without either blowing everything up or pretending nothing happened. What would YOU do?
