I'm Falling for My Best Friend's Boyfriend—Do I Confess?

Category: relationships • Theme: Honesty vs Loyalty

I never thought I’d be in this situation. My best friend and her boyfriend have been together for just under a year, and I’ve always liked him—but only in that distant, 'you’re great for her' kind of way. Or at least, that’s what I thought. Recently, though, he and I have been spending more time together in group settings. We joke easily, share inside references, and, honestly, I feel a spark I can’t deny. Last weekend, at a party, we ended up talking alone in the kitchen for almost an hour and I caught myself wishing it was more. Now I’m battling a constant guilt in my gut. Every time I see both of them together, I feel like I’m hiding this awful secret, even though I haven’t done anything. I know my friend trusts me with everything. She tells me all about their relationship, not realizing how complicated my feelings have grown. Sometimes I think about telling her, but I worry it would shatter her trust and possibly ruin their relationship. On the other hand, if I keep pretending everything is fine, I feel like a fraud and I don't know if I can keep acting ‘normal’. Is it possible to just cut off my feelings and be a good friend, or will that only eat away at me—and at our friendship? I don’t know what’s worse: being honest and potentially hurting everyone, or keeping quiet and living with this secret every day. What would YOU do?
