I feel sick just thinking about this, but I can't seem to get it off my mind. My best friend started dating this guy a couple months ago—let’s call him her 'new boyfriend.' At first, I tried to give him a chance since she seemed really happy. But then, a few weeks ago, I ran into him alone at a bar when my friend had gone home early. Out of nowhere, he cornered me and started saying some pretty nasty, threatening stuff—telling me to stay out of their relationship, hinting he’d make my life hell if I ever 'got between them.' It was uncomfortable and scary. I haven’t told my friend because she seems genuinely smitten, and I’m terrified she’ll just think I’m jealous or trying to sabotage her happiness—that’s how he painted it, actually, even though he and I have barely spoken. Part of me wants to believe he was just drunk and it was a misunderstanding, but I can’t shake the pit in my stomach or the sick feeling I get whenever I see her with him. If I tell her, I risk blowing up our friendship or making her shut me out. If I don’t, am I just letting her walk into something really bad? I have no real proof except how he made me feel, and yet it feels wrong to stay silent. What would YOU do?
