My Best Friend's Secret Struggle—Should I Intervene?

Category: relationships • Theme: Loyalty to Friend vs Moral Responsibility

I’ve been best friends with someone since we were kids. We’ve shared everything—until recently, when she told me something that’s kept me up at night. She admitted she’s been secretly seeing someone much older from work, someone in a high position, and she’s scared because he’s become obsessive and manipulative. She swore me to secrecy, begging me not to talk to anyone, especially her family. She said she’s handling it, but I can see how jumpy she is, missing work, losing weight. She keeps brushing me off when I want to help more, insisting she’s in control. Part of me wants to honor her trust, but I’m terrified she’s actually in danger. If I reach out to her parents or HR, she’ll see it as the ultimate betrayal and I could destroy her trust forever. If I do nothing and something happens, I don’t think I’ll ever forgive myself. I feel paralyzed every time I see her phone light up or she flinches at a message. I want to help, but I’m afraid my idea of help could actually make things worse for her. What would YOU do?
