Should I Call Out My Friends for Excluding Me?

Category: relationships • Theme: Honest Confrontation vs Self-Preservation

I recently discovered something that’s been weighing really heavily on my mind. I’ve always considered myself part of this close friend group—we’re all from the same college, and for years, we hung out almost every weekend. But over the past few months, I started noticing I wasn’t getting invited to things as often. At first, I just thought people were busy, or maybe I missed a group text now and then. But last week, I scrolled past an Instagram post of the group at a music festival—one I would have loved to go to. It’s not the first time, either. I decided to ask one friend, who let it slip that the group had started hanging out more without me because, as she put it, “You’re always so intense about planning and kind of kill the vibe.” I honestly feel betrayed and embarrassed. I never realized I was coming across that way, and no one ever told me. Now I’m torn about what to do next. Part of me wants to call everyone out and demand an explanation—don’t I deserve at least that? Another part of me wants to just quietly step back and let things fade, keeping my dignity but never really knowing what went wrong. And there’s a third option I keep turning over: reach out calmly to one or two friends and ask how I can do better, maybe try to repair things without a big confrontation. I feel so hurt, but also afraid of making things worse. What would YOU do?
