I recently found out that my friend group—people I’ve hung out with since college—have a separate group chat without me. It didn’t happen by accident; I saw over someone’s shoulder at an event, then pieced things together from social media. They meet up way more often than I knew, and share things I’ve never been told. I keep replaying all our times together in my head, wondering what I did wrong or if I was ever really part of the group. I feel both hurt and embarrassed, torn between confronting them or pretending I don’t know. If I confront them, I risk hearing truths I’m not ready for or losing even the shallow connection we have left. If I ignore it and just try to act normal, I worry I’m letting myself be treated badly just to keep some kind of friendship. Part of me wants to quietly fade away and find new people, but another part wants closure or even a chance to patch things up. I miss what we had, but I feel so rejected now. I honestly don’t know what would hurt less: knowing, not knowing, or just moving on. What would YOU do?
