Do I Confess My Feelings for My Best Friend’s Girlfriend?

Category: romance • Theme: Honesty with Myself vs Protecting My Friendship

I never expected to fall for my best friend’s girlfriend, but somehow, over the past year, it happened. I tried ignoring it at first, chalked it up to admiration or just too much time spent together. But the truth is piercing: I’ve developed real feelings for her—deep, messy, “I wish things were different” feelings. She’s everything I never knew I wanted: passionate, funny, kind, and, from what I can tell, genuinely happy with my best friend. We’ve shared a couple of late-night conversations alone, and there’s a spark, at least on my end. It’s eating me up inside. I’m starting to avoid them both, afraid I’ll slip or that someone will notice. My friend is like a brother to me. Telling him would devastate him, maybe end our friendship, and ruin their relationship. If I keep my feelings quiet, though, I feel like I’m lying to both of them—and myself. The tension is ruining our trio, and sometimes I catch her giving me a look I can’t decipher. Am I imagining it? I honestly don’t know what’s right anymore. Some days I want to come clean, accept the fallout, and move on. Other days I think the only answer is to pull away and let them be, even if it means losing them both. Or maybe there’s some way to stay in their lives while keeping my feelings in check. Every path hurts. What would YOU do?
