I’ve always admired our church pastor. He’s been at the heart of our small town for over fifteen years, guiding us through hard times and personal struggles. Last week, I was working late in the church office, finishing up volunteer paperwork when I heard footsteps. I figured it was just someone locking up, but out of curiosity, I peeked into the hallway and saw our pastor huddled by the donation box. I watched, frozen, as he fished out a stack of envelopes and quickly stuffed them into his coat. He didn’t notice me, and after he left, all I could feel was dread.
