I work at a mid-sized tech company. A few months ago, I accidentally overheard two of our top executives talking in a conference room. They were discussing how the company had quietly covered up a major security flaw that impacted thousands of users—something that could easily lead to identity theft if it came out. I didn’t think much of it at the time, but recently a journalist contacted me. He somehow found out I was in the office that night, and he’s asking for my testimony to help expose the cover-up. The thing is, I signed a pretty strict NDA when I joined, and if my name gets out, I could face a lawsuit—and possibly lose my job. I’m not some hero, I’m just trying to pay my bills. But at the same time, I started thinking about all the people who could get hurt if this stays under wraps. I don’t know if I’d be able to forgive myself if someone’s life was ruined because I stayed quiet. But the thought of legal trouble, being labeled a whistleblower, or not being able to support my family keeps me up at night. I feel trapped between my own security and the right thing. What would YOU do?
