Should I Leak Evidence That Could Swing The Election?

Category: society • Theme: Public Good vs Personal Safety

I work part-time on the tech support team for a local political campaign office. One late night, while fixing a server error, I stumbled upon a folder of emails—clearly marked private—that outline questionable tactics to suppress certain groups of voters in our district. None of this is technically illegal, but it’s ethically awful, and if people knew, it would probably change a lot of minds before the election in two weeks. The candidate isn’t some faraway figure; I see them at rallies, shaking hands with my neighbors. I also know that exposing this could risk my job, my reputation, and maybe even my safety, given how heated politics feels lately. On the other hand, if I stay silent, I feel complicit in something deeply unfair, especially since people in my own community would be affected. I keep playing out what could happen if the story came out—would I even be believed, or would everyone just double down on their side? Would my family become targets? When I mentioned 'feeling uneasy' about something at work, a friend warned me to mind my own business. But how can I, knowing this could literally change who leads our city for the next four years? I can't eat, and I barely sleep, wondering what I'm responsible for. What would YOU do?
