I always dreamed of working for this company—ever since college, it’s been my North Star. Last week out of the blue, I got an offer: higher pay, creative freedom, and the chance to finally prove myself. But the timing couldn’t be worse. At my current job, I manage a small team, and we’re in the final stretch of delivering the biggest project we’ve ever handled. The work has been stressful and exhausting, and honestly, some days I wake up wanting to quit. But my team relies on me. I’m the only one with all the technical knowledge that’s holding things together. If I leave now, they’ll likely miss the deadline, and I know it would hurt their reputations and maybe even my direct reports’ chances at promotion. The offer gives me just a week to decide. I’ve worked so hard for my own shot, but I can’t shake the guilt at abandoning everyone at the most critical moment. Part of me says it’s not personal—it’s business and people move on. But another part of me knows how devastated I’d feel if someone left me like this. I worry I might burn bridges I can never rebuild, but if I say no, who knows if I’ll ever get another shot like this? I keep going in circles—my future vs. my team’s present. What would YOU do?
