I’m struggling to figure out what’s fair at work and what will just make things worse. Last month, I spent nights and weekends developing a new system for tracking our department’s projects—something our boss had said we desperately needed. I shared the finished proposal with my team, including detailed notes and explanations. Then, last week during a big meeting, my colleague presented the exact system as her own. She didn’t just leave my name out—she acted like she’d done it all from scratch, soaking up all the praise from our boss. I sat there frozen, barely able to process it. To make matters worse, our boss emailed her after the meeting to say she might be up for a promotion because of it. I have timestamped drafts, email chains, and calendar invites that clearly prove the work was mine. I keep replaying the moment in my head—could I have misread what happened? But it’s all right there in black and white. If I come forward, I risk looking like I’m out to disrupt the team or can’t handle "office politics." Others on the team are already wary about conflict, and I’ve only been here a year.
