I recently learned something that's been weighing on me every single day. Our company just announced a round of layoffs, citing financial struggles, but as a member of the finance team, I know for a fact that we’re not actually in trouble. In fact, I’ve seen internal memos basically confirming that these layoffs are just a way for upper management to bump up profits for a better end-of-year bonus. Legally, there’s nothing wrong—they’re fudging the narrative, not the numbers—but it feels so wrong to sit quietly while people I care about are losing their jobs. I have friends here raising kids, others just barely getting by. I keep asking myself: is it my place to speak up?
